Frequently Asked Questions
Is ActiveMg safe for young children?
The RELAX Sleep and Stress Syrup contains Valerian, Chamomile and MelissaBalm which are 3 proven ingredients to give you that calm and relaxed floating feeling, thatjust helps you to close your eyes. And the activated magnesium in the ActiveMg is a proven muscle relaxant, and the Folinic Acid (Vitamin B9) reduces stress and anxiety.
Answer: ActiveMg is safe for children as it only contains minerals and vitamins that we have in
our body anyway, however the one word of caution for kids is that our product contains Zinc and
there are maximum daily-recommended dosages of Zinc for both adults and children. Our
product dose rate is 2 - 3 capsules per day, but for children we suggest you use no more than 2
capsules per day as you are getting up towards the maximum zinc dosage.
We are often also asked about suggestions for children on taking capsules, as many kids don’t
like swallowing capsules or tablets. The answer there is that you can empty the contents of the 2
capsules into a glass of fruit juice or flavored water and allow them to drink it. It is the
ingredients in the capsule (and not the capsule itself) that does the work, so this is a practical
way of getting children to take the product. This method is also useful for adults who don’t like
swallowing pills or capsules.
Generally speaking this advice is suitable for children 10 years and above. Below 10 years of
age we recommend you consult your doctor as to suitability of taking ActiveMg.
The 8 ingredients in ActiveMg are Magnesium, Zinc, Vitamin B3, B6 & B9 (as Folic Acid), B12,
Passionflower and Cramp Bark.
Can I take ActiveMg with my other medication/s?
There are no known contraindications with ActiveMg and any other medication you
might be on. Given that ActiveMg is a blend of vitamins and minerals that are (or should
be) present in the human body anyway, there is no risk by adding more of them into the body
and they will not interact adversely with any normal prescription medications you might be
taking for migraine or anxiety, or other common drugs.
However, Magnesium is known to potentially reduce the effectiveness of some antibiotics if
taken at or around the same time, so conventional medical advice suggests that if you are taking
antibiotics and a magnesium supplement then you should have a 2-hour gap between taking the
antibiotic and the magnesium (ActiveMg)
So in theory you can just take the RELAX Sleep Syrup and you will enjoy a great night’s sleep, but the Magnesium contained in the ActiveMg capsules will relax all the soft muscle tissue in your body and give you a permanently relaxed state of sleep. The Folinic Acid relieves anxiety and the Vitamin B12 calms the nervous system and relieves nerve twitch and low-level nerve pain. Taken together they give you a sleep experience most people only dream about (or don’t get a chance to dream about, because they are awake most of the night).
Can I stop taking my medication now that I am taking ActiveMg?
Our advice is that you leave your current medication unchanged and keep taking that
until such time as your magnesium levels have time to build up (from taking ActiveMg). This
can take anywhere from 3 – 5 weeks and then once you feel an appreciable lessening of the
symptoms you can consider phasing off the prescription meds, but this should always be done in
consultation with your doctor, as many prescribed medications vary greatly and some need a
slow phase off period (some medications for migraine and also for anxiety are addictive and
phasing off comes with side effects).
Are there any side effects from taking ActiveMg?
Magnesium in excess of 300mg a day has been known to cause some mild diarrhoea,
but the full dose (3 caps) of Migraine Stop contains exactly 300mg of elemental magnesium so
you shouldn’t have any problems.
What can I do if I am concerned about the potential of diarrhoea ?
If you have any worries just start gradually by taking 1 capsule per day in week 1, 2
capsules per day in week 2, then at week 3 increase to the full 3 capsule per day dose rate
When is the best time of the day to take ActiveMg ?
The RELAX Sleep and Stress Syrup contains Valerian, Chamomile and MelissaBalm which are 3 proven ingredients to give you that calm and relaxed floating feeling, thatjust helps you to close your eyes. And the activated magnesium in the ActiveMg is a proven muscle relaxant, and the Folinic Acid (Vitamin B9) reduces stress and anxiety.
There is no best time in regards to function, but try to take them with food, so make it
a habit to take either with breakfast, lunch or with dinner at night.
Can I take ActiveMg while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Our medical advisers who helped us design and formulate the product indicate that
ActiveMg is completely safe for women trying to conceive, or during pregnancy and
breastfeeding, but the medical fraternity is somewhat split on the issue of taking supplements
during pregnancy and it often comes down to the personal opinion of an individual doctor.
Medically speaking they are safe to take, but our recommendation is that you discuss it with your
GP as this is often a very personal decision and both patient and doctor should be in alignment
on the thinking behind it.
The only ingredients in the product are Magnesium, Zinc, Vitamins B3 & B6, Vitamin B9 (as Folic Acid), B12, Cramp Bark and Passionflower. A combination of vitamins, mineral and plant extracts,
so there is nothing in there that can cause harm, but it’s always best to get a second opinion.
If our bodies are not low in nutrients to begin with, can taking this supplement increase the levels overtime, which could then
result in exceeding the recommended medical levels referred to in blood results?
It is virtually impossible to overdose on Magnesium or B group vitamins, as any excess
that your body doesn’t need (or can’t utilize) will eventually be excreted. The moment you stop
taking the capsules your magnesium levels will slowly reduce again because you are not
continually feeding the magnesium in.
What about Vitamin B6 toxicity? Is that real?
in theory, there is potential to take too much Vitamin B6, which can lead to neuropathy
(tingling & numbness) in the hands and feet, but the dose of Vitamin B6 required to cause this is
quite high. Clinical evidence suggests you have to take at least 500mg of B6 every day for an
extended period of time for B6 toxicity to occur and this is 8 times the level in ActiveMg. You
would need to take 23 – 24 capsules a day of ActiveMg to be at risk of B6 toxicity and you would
need to do that every day for at least a month.
So on the normal maximum dose rate of 3 capsules per day of ActiveMg there is no risk of B6
toxicity, as B6 does not ‘build up’ or remain in the body. As soon as you stop taking it, the B6
flushes out.
As with all supplements you should ensure you aren’t getting too much by taking other
supplements that contains the same things. To take a straight B6 supplement in addition to
ActiveMg would be unadvisable, as many straight B6 supplements can contain several hundred
milligrams of B6 in each capsule.
Can I take ActiveMg if I am taking a Multivitamin?
It is true that here may be some double ups on certain components. Most are
tolerable but just check on the total amount of Vitamin B6 and Zinc you will be consuming per
day. It’s best not to exceed 500mgs of Vitamin B6 per day (you get 60 mg from our 3-capsule
dose) and also with the Zinc try not to exceed 40mg per day (you get 9 mg from our 3-capsule
dose).
Other than that, there won’t be any issues to worry about. But with the ActiveMg start on 2
capsules per day and only go to 3 capsules after the first week if you need to. In other words, if
the migraines, the anxiety or the RLS hasn’t fully improved, then go to the full 3 capsule a day
dose, but some people find that 2 per day is enough.
